TERA: the Exiled Realm of Arborea is an MMORPG that uses a real-time action combat system instead of a tabbed combat system. The game is faster paced and more action filled than most other role playing games on the Internet, and to top it all off it is completely free to play, with the option of buying additional perks for the game. It is built on a fantasy theme and there are several different classes that you can choose to be in the game when you first start off.
One of the main features of TERA is its unique real-time battling system that isn’t features in many other MMORPGs (massive multiplayer online roleplaying games). This system requires you to actively aim at your enemies in order to deliver blows to them. You are also required to actually dodge attacks by moving out of the way. This means that you will have to actively move around the screen if you hope to defeat more difficult enemies. If you stand still and try to attack you will quickly be pummeled down to the ground.
TERA allows skill chains in the game so that you don’t have to memorize the location of all the skills you want to set off. Instead it will prompt you with different skills as you are attacking so that you can release a set of skills one after another very easily. TERA features a high level of character customization. There are sliders to adjust all of the different features of your character so that you can create a highly-unique character in the game. The game also has dungeons and raid instances that require groups of players to complete. These dungeons are instanced so that only a single group will be inside at a time, and they offer some of the best gear in the game upon completion.
In TERA? there is a political system that allows you to run for Van Arch of a zone and that gives your guild additional perks and power over the location. In order to get into this position you will have to gain good feedback with your guild by being good to the other players around you.
One of the closest competitors to Tera: the Exiled Realm of Arborea is RaiderZ by Perfect World. RaiderZ uses the same real-time combat system with active dodging and skill aiming. However, RaiderZ doesn’t have graphics on the same level as Tera online. The game also doesn’t have enemies with as sophisticated artificial intelligence making for a little duller combat.
One interesting thing about RaiderZ is that there aren’t really any classes, and instead you simply unlock different abilities that you want to use throughout the game. This keeps different characters from being locked into any specific roles and works similarly to the Secret World skill wheel system.
If you are sick of MMORPG games where you simply point and click to defeat your enemies, the fast-paced dodge and roll system of TERA may be well-appreciated. TERA is a highly polished game and is a real value since it is completely free to play now. If you are looking for a new massive world to fall into TERA: the Exiled Realm of Arborea is a great option that you will certainly enjoy.
