Description
Magic The Gathering Tactics is a strategy game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and it is loosely based on the Magic: The Gathering card game. This online, turn-based game was released for PC on January 24, 2011 and was also released for Playstation Home.
Features
The object of the game is to defeat the opponent’s Planeswalker using an army which comes in the form of spellbooks. Then, the player will choose one out of the five colors (Red, Blue, Green, Black and White) that he can build his deck with and a visual representative of his Planeswalker. Upon creation of an account, the player will receive starter decks that contain free but untradable cards from each color.
More cards can be acquired through the auction house or as rewards upon completion of various conditions. Players can also buy cards using their own money. Unlike the real game, there are no cards that correspond to mana. Rather, there is an allotted mana per turn based on the cards in his spellbook. Likewise, Planeswalkers can upgrade their skill and each character is visually represented in a grid map that depicts an RPG scenario.
Comparison
As compared to games of the same nature like Wizard 101, Mysteria and Battle Forge, the grid map in Magic The Gathering Tactics makes its a better option. Mysteria is a simple Strategy Card Game while the graphics of Wizard 101 is not at par with Magic The Gathering. Meanwhile, Battle Forge is more of a strategy game rather than a card game although it has the latter element.
Conclusion
Magic The Gathering Tactics is an able alternative for Magic The Gathering card gamers. However, it doesn’t offer anything more than being an online version. Likewise, you might not feel the same amount of pressure that a crowd brings to a real game. Still, this game lets you play even without spending money in building a deck.
