VoIPStunt is a German based internet calling software similar to the popular Skype brand. The service advertises the ability to call certain destinations for free and low (varies by country) rates for the rest of the world. The system uses a softphone application that can be downloaded to your desktop. The interface is clean and easy to understand.
Features are fewer than the most popular competition with a considerably less robust feature system. VoIPStunt offers landline, PC and smartphone access to their service through a variety of setup options. In whole the program has gained popularity in several markets, there are however, a few key issues which warrant extra attention.
As mentioned, VoIPStunt is less feature rich than some of its competition. Some users may find this to be a bonus as the confusion level for the software is considerably less. A few of the components that VoIPStunt has in common with other internet based calling systems are as follows:
- A local calling number from which users can make outgoing or incoming calls to countries around the world.
- An interface that resembles a standard phone system (a contact list, speed dial, etc.)
- Integration with USB phones, smartphones and PC based operating systems.
- Free peer-to-peer calls. Calls to other VoIPStunt users are free using the software.
It should be noted however that ‘free’ in this case is a somewhat limited term. The company states that the one-minute limit on free calls prevents abuse of the system. A small payment (10 Euros) allows for 120 days (four months) of calls to those destinations without affecting your credit. Afterwards charges resume and your credit is applied to the account. There is a 300 minute per week limit measured on the previous 7 day cycle.
As noted there are differences between this software and competitors in the market. The real deciding factor in whether this service is right for you over other services is the level of complexity that you prefer. For Skype users that are accustomed to add-ons such as video calling, you will not find these in VoIPStunt. Both services offer an extensive list of free call countries. Neither service provides emergency call options and both state on their websites that they are not planning on adding them. This software is largely a smaller, compact internet calling option for people who want minimum frills and a straight forward interface.
Internet calling is gaining in popularity with each passing year. This is hardly a surprise in a world where international calling is still rather expensive for landline and mobile phone users. The ability to conference in participants from around the globe is a boon for businessmen who are searching for better ways to stay connected. Price points are very similar between most VoIP companies and reliability is fairly constant. Some encryption methods have been questioned but provide little real trouble. In short VoIPStunt is a good software for basic VoIP users that don’t need a lot of extra bells and whistles.
VOIPStunt is owned by a parent company, Dellmont-Sarl based in Luxembourg. Dellmont is a media company that was started in 2008 offering service to residential and business customers in Europe.
