TorChat helps the user to chat with their friends and co-workers and to transmit various types of documents and files. A user just have to do is, while adding a person or a new contact; they just need to specify the display name and the Torchat ID. The program will add the contact in the list and the user can start the chat right away. Each user has a unique communicator, alphanumeric identifier with a length of 16 characters, randomly generated when the user first start the program. This identifier is also addressed in the Tor hidden service, which is run by every communicator. Thanks to these addresses TorChat clients can communicate with each other, to exchange information about the status, text messages or other data sent by the merger.
The TorChat for Windows PC was built using the ‘py2exe’ and is shared with a built-in copy of onion router Tor, so the communicator can run as a portable program directly from a USB storage regardless of installing it. When a friend or a contact will try to contact the user, a floating popup window that contains the message will fly out across the screen and sit back in the right side of corner. After pointing the cursor to that position, the text will disappear.
Comparison
This program uses all the features of Tor’s services, the user can be guaranteed that all the traffic between clients is private and encrypted such that no one will ever know from where the actual traffic is coming from. As a result, any time when the user would like to set off an outgoing connection to a particular address, they can do that in hassle free way.
TorChat supports multi language such as Italian and polish translation. It has the ability to copy the TorChat ID to clipboard. The application runs from any USB storage, so it won’t affect the performance of the PC and nor it will interact with any other software installed.
