Users who want to extract MP3 files from videos and websites without risking quality loss can use mp3DirectCut, a tool that allows MP3 cutting and editing. Even as music files are saved anew as smaller files, they do not show quality loss, static, or any change in volume.
Music buffs whose computers are almost at their maximum storage limit can use mp3DirectCut to compress their MP3 files. Since the program doesn’t compromise a file’s audio integrity, it can be used to minimize size while still maintaining a file’s quality throughout the process. Audio files that seem too soft or too loud can also be tweaked using this program. An MP3 file grabbed from a video can also be cut and cropped to fit the user’s preferences. For instance, users who need an editing tool for their recorded songs can use mp3DirectCut to trim or split files.
Effects can be added into the audio file, such as fading in or out. Multiple files, such as songs from one concert, can be recorded into one file for archiving purposes. Another useful feature of mp3DirectCut is its disk recording option. Songs can be burned into a CD directly from the program. This program also allows users to record sounds. However, it can’t record sounds from a microphone or from a line input, making its record function rather limited.
Although it is considered an editing tool, it doesn’t necessarily possess all the editing functions of other editing programs. For instance, mp3DirectCut can’t remove clicks and hisses from a file. The speed (pitch) of a track can’t be manipulated as well. On the other hand, the editing program “Audacity” can merge and edit different tracks at the same time, modify the pitch, and remove noise. Those looking for audio editing tools will have to use a program other than mp3DirectCut, such as Audacity, to avail of a wide variety of editing options.
As implied by its name, mp3DirectCut deals only with mp3 files. Many other audio editors can deal with other audio file formats, such as WMA and WAV. Users who want to resize or edit WAV and WMA files will have to avail of a separate program. Lastly, mp3DirectCut is available only in the English language. Other audio editors come in several languages: French, German, Chinese, and Dutch, among others. Users who do not speak English have no choice but to stick to other audio editors – that is, until mp3DirectCut becomes available in these languages as well.
For users who need a basic mp3 cutting and resizing tool, mp3DirectCut is a great program. It can resize an mp3 file without changing its quality. This allows users the option to create more storage space in their computers and external drives. However, for serious audio editors who need to “clean” audio files, perform pitch modification, or add effects (echo, flange, reverb), mp3DirectCut is not recommended.
