Our computers running Windows have close to millions of files stored in them. Searching using the built-in search tools can take lots of time especially if the files are not indexed. MasterSeeker is an advanced and fast file search program, which does the job at a much faster rate with improved algorithms.
MasterSeeker, the master in seeking files, features a very simple user interface with textboxes for selecting the drive and directory in which to search, and file size with tabular view for sorting file data effectively. The sorting can be done on any column visible and the sorting happens instantly without lengthy wait times. The file searching is sped up internally by maintaining file entry cache (which are read directly from Master File Table) and held in RAM for fast access. The software supports NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and exFAT file systems with real-time updates on NTFS drives while the software is running. NTFS drives with non-512 KB sector size and 4 TB or larger drives are also supported by this software. The size enumeration for directory is instantaneous without any wait. The searching can be done with filename along with regular expressions and wildcards for multiple files. The search results can be saved and exported into files for later use. The search can be further sped up by specifying particular drive and list of possible directories to include or exclude with support for both / and \ slashes in directory path. The OS support is great for MasterSeeker with support for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8 and Server editions 2003, 2008 and 2012. On Windows 2000/XP/2003, an installation of .NET framework 2.0 is a must for the software to execute.
The built-in Windows search in Windows 7 and specially in Windows 8 works fast but only when drives are selected to be indexed which takes lots of memory and disk usage for the caching. Launchy is a free and open-source alternative to MasterSeeker with identical facilities and also supports Linux and Mac as well. DocFetcher is almost yet another open-source program providing same functionalities. Some other free tools similar to MasterSeeker include Everything (which is geared towards system administration), Locate32 (to locate files and emulates updatedb and locate commands of UNIX systems) and SearchMyFiles which offers same functionality and is portable. FileSearchy is another free alternative with more features such as searching for texts in PDF files, Office documents and other such document formats.
MasterSeeker is an excellent replacement for the default Windows Search and searches files with increased speed and reliability. Folder size calculation is instant with support for directory paths in both Windows and UNIX formats. Support for wildcards and regular expressions is added bonus for the users and increases its value for power users and system admins. The software supports all NTFS/FAT file systems without any size limit and is available for almost all version of Window in usage.
MasterSeeker is developed by a programmer who goes by the name DxCK.
