Description

HashCalc is a free calculator to calculate hashes, checksums and HMACs for files, hex strings and text. It is a perceptive application for Windows which could be used for checking the righteousness of the files in the personal computer. HashCalc supports many hash types, which includes SHA-1, SHA-256, CRC32, MD4, MD5, MD2, etc. It is a freeware and is compatible with Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 8 (32/64 bit).

Features

This extensive checksum calculator is very user friendly and easy to use. HashCalc’s has a very simple user interface which is very appealing. The UI takes the inputs in the form of file path and outputs the results. Help file in the tool explains the range of program functions which could be used or calculated in HashCalc.

The display of HashCalc consists of an input box which basically has the path of the file which needs to be checked for. The path of the file can either be browsed or the folder in which the file is can be directly written in the input box. Just below the input box, there are thirteen basic checksum algorithms. Each Algorithm has a checkbox next to it. It’s up to the user to select the type of algorithm required for calculating the checksums or hash values. The most common Algorithms are MD2, MD4, MD5, RIPEMD160, PANAMA, CRC3, TIGER, SHA2, SHA1 (SHA256, SHA384, SHA512). Immediately after the file is placed in the display box, the app calculates and provides the checksum for any of the algorithm which is being checked for.

Data formats like files, text string, and hexadecimal string are supported in HashCalc. It works very fast, gives quick answers and is easily installable. HashCalc also supports significantly large files. The calculation is not dependent on the size of the file. It has drag-and-drop features, where in, the user can just drag and drop the files which had to be checked. It creates hash values, checksum, and HMAC for any type of files. All these make it a very valuable tool. It could also be used to test FTP corruption and for checking corruptions in downloads and uploads. All types of files like audio, sound, video, image, text, icon, compression, and other file types can also be checked.

Comparison

Hash tab and checksum are some of the tools which works like HashCalc. The Check sum tool is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux OS. Check sum also has drag and drop feature. This could be used for removable devices like USB.

Conclusion

HashCalc is an easy to use and user friendly application which helps in calculating the hash value and checksum for any type of file. It is highly efficient tool and works very fast. All the stated functions can make HashCalc a useful application.
