Description
There are a lot of Jabber clients that one can find on the internet. Gajim is also one of them which have been developed by Yann Le Boulanger and which have been there with us since more than a decade. It is a feature oriented software which allows the user to make use of multiple IDs at a time on various networks and all in a single application. Gajim basically focuses on Jabber protocols and allows the user to communicate with others anytime and at any place they wish to.
Features
Gajim possesses a very simple interface but at the same time the features offered by it are mainly scattered. It also offers an option to the user to change their status, but the status will be then set for all the accounts the user uses on it. This could also be annoying for most of the times.
The chat window offered by the client is also minimal as it consists of the user’s status and border at the top and 2 buttons at the bottom for inserting smileys, sending the message and for action menu. A compact mode is also present which when initiated, removes the bottom part of the chat window which consists of the 3 buttons. Another very interesting feature to mention is the search feature. If the user does not understand the meaning of any word that they receives in the chat window, all they needs to do is to select that word, right click on it and then select the option to look up the meaning of the word on Google, wiktionary or Wikipedia.
For security features, it supports the Jabber connection and for the users that want even more security, they can encrypt the messages by using GnuPG.
Comparison
One can find a lot of Jabber clients on the internet, but Gajim consists of almost all the features that are required by a user for an excellent Jabber experience. Unlike other Jabber clients, the program is stable and also possesses a very active community of developers. A lot of other documentations are offered to the beginners as well as for the advanced users to that they can efficiently utilize all of its features.
Conclusion
Overall Gajim is a fully featured, free, cross platform Jabber client which is available to the users in 16 languages. Offering all the features that are needed by a Jabber user it is one of the best among the rest.
